Jammu-Kashmir based Amarnath is one of the most sacred places of the world especially for the Hindu religion. Here the devotees are given ashes as sacraments. This cave is opened only for few days from Ashadh to Shravan Poornima. There are two ways to reach Amarnath: one of them goes through Baltal which is about 70 kms from Srinagar. This path is shorter for walking but is extremely dangerous. In the rainy season the danger increases even more. The other way opens from Pahalgaon which goes through Chandanbari, Sheshnag and Panchatarani. Most of the travellers go through this way.

It takes 12 hours by bus to reach Pahalgaon. Rest may be taken in Pahalgaon in the night and then move ahead the next day. From here the first stoppage is at Chandanbari which is about 14kms away from here and can be reached here by Bus or on foot. This place is situated on height of about 9500 feet. The wind here is very cold and chilling. Here the people buy pointed sticks as from here onwards people have to travel on foot for about 32 kms on an almost vertical height which seems quite tough.

After travelling for about 3 kms on rocky path the travellers reach on Pipsu Top which is about 11500 feet high. They take rest at this place for some time and then move ahead for Sheshnag.

There is a large lake surrounded all around by the hills. The next place is on about 14500 feet high. Here the devotees may face some problems in breathing due to lack of oxygen and the acceleration of cold and chilling wind increases.

The devotees have to take bah in Amravati lake before worshsipping. The Amarnath cave is about 60 feet in length and breadth. Its height is 15 feet. The shape of this cave is rectangular.

The travellers should keep some warm clothes, sun-glass, dry fruits and some essential medicines before visiting this place.
